Painting

Art 1 students learn different painting techniques using tempera paint and watercolor paint. Techniques include mixing secondary and intermediate colors, tints, shades, and tones.

Students create their own color wheel radial design as well as creating secondary and intermediate colors. Each slice of the color wheel also includes multiple tints and shades which students will also create. Click on the "Color Wheel" button to see the instructional PDF. The orange buttons below are also instructional videos.

Students create a monochromatic self portrait from a posterized selfie. Students also learn the grid method in order to transfer the shapes they see as accurate as possible to ensure the larger-scaled drawing. Click on the "Monochromatic Self Portrait" button to see the instructional PDF. The orange buttons below are also instructional videos.

Students use the VR goggles and Google Street View to explore different places around the world to create an imaginative landscape. The landscapes are at a larger scale, starting at 12x18 using watercolor paint and other techniques taught to students so they can experiment. Click on the "Imaginative Landscape" button to see the instructional PDF.
