About Mrs. Marciano

You know when adults asked you, "what do you want to be when you grow up"? My answer has always been: an art teacher. Coming from a family of educators, I quickly learned how rewarding the profession can be. I'm one of the lucky ones to say I love my job. The students are what make my career choice so rewarding.

My mom signed me up for pottery classes when I was in 6th grade. I was the youngest student by 30 years and I enjoyed every minute. I learned the basics of the wheel, hand building and glazing and since that day, I've been hooked. I took 7 semesters of ceramics at South Windsor High School in CT. When trying to determine what university to go to, making sure their Art Education program had a ceramics studio was my #1 priority.

For college I chose a small school in Scranton, PA where I played D3 volleyball and studied abroad in Florence, Italy but I knew it wasn't the college experience I was looking for. So I transferred to a place I hadn't even visited but knew the school was known for its pirate pride and it's great art program. Yes that's right...I went down south to East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. I was able to play club volleyball as well receive a BFA in Art Education with a Concentration in Ceramics. After teaching 2 full years of ceramics at a public high school in NC, I decided to come home to be closer to family and friends and I'm happy to be a part of the Ledyard community.

My students learn how to work hard in a studio setting as well as being responsible for themselves as individuals and how to contribute to a positive learning community. We teach each other how to solve problems because there's always more than one way to do things. I love being able to give my students an open-ended assignment where I tell them to pick the medium, or the subject matter and they go all in and accept my challenge. Creating artwork is personal and in my studio, students learn the fundamentals of the visual arts as well as learning how to create artwork that is personal to them.

As well as being an Art Teacher at Ledyard High School, I am also a National Art Honor Society Adviser and the JV Volleyball Coach.
