Drawing

Students learn about how to create patterns using various lines and zentangles. Students also explore how to create value by using different line weights in order to bring more visual interest to their composition. Sharpie is used to create a more graphic look to this project. Click on the "Line Design" button to see the instructional PDF.

Students learn how to create value using ebony pencils. The challenge with this project is having to organize the values per shapes so none of the same values are next to each other. This project also shows students that values create shapes, not lines. Click on the "Line Design" button to see the instructional PDF.

Students learn about how to create a composition by adding a horizon line, learning about foreground, middleground, background as well as negative space, and overlapping. Students use their observational skills to create a drawing of a composition composed of white geometric objects with dramatic lighting. Students show their competency using ebony pencils to create values and cast shadows. Click on the "Geometric Still Life" button to see the instructional PDF.

By now, students have had practice in creating values as well as creating a strong composition. For this project, students are expected to use their prior knowledge while using colored pencils to create a colored organic still life drawing. Students are encouraged to create their own composition by zooming in and cropping images to create a visually appealing composition. Students also create texture by experimenting with stippling or crosshatching. Click on the "Organic Objects Still Life" button to see the instructional PDF.

Students use their knowledge in working with colored pencils and sharpie to create a pattern that interlocks. Mathematical thinking as well as planning and problem solving is necessary in order for students to be successful. Click on the "Tessellations" button to see the instructional PDF.
